Drywall and dry construction

Automated quoting for drywall stores

The fitter's list arrives on your store's WhatsApp with boards, profiles and accessories tangled in the same text. Tablia reads it item by item, finds each part in your catalogue and returns the quote for the salesperson to check.

The fitter sends the same list to three stores and buys from whoever answers first. How many are left waiting because the salesperson is still typing the previous one?

  4. Got it. That is 9 items — I am checking them against the store's stock now.

  5. Quote #D9K4 is ready. 8 of the 9 items available; I marked the 50 mm rock wool as missing.

  6. Does the bathroom board really have to be the green one?

  7. MR is the wet-area one, yes. I kept the 10 in version 2 of #D9K4; the previous one is now superseded.

A ceiling and wall list, exactly as it arrives

Notice that the board comes with three specifications attached and the profile with only one — the one that is not enough to tell track from stud.

Illustrative example. The list and the catalogue names are fictional.

One letter separates the board that works from the one that comes back

In a dry-construction store what decides the match fits in two letters and a decimal point — and that is where exact-text search goes wrong.

32quantity
boardproduct
STtype
12,5thickness
1,20x1,80format

Search by identical text finds “board” and delivers the standard one instead of the moisture-resistant. The ST and the MR separate one product from the other, the 12.5 separates the wall board from the reinforcing one, and the format decides how many fit on the lorry. None of the three can be lost.

The wrong board does not come back

A standard board in a wet area does not become a return. It becomes a wall rebuilt a few weeks later, with your customer's customer complaining.

“Profile 70” is two parts

Track and stud have the same width, and the fitter writes only the number. The word missing from the line is exactly the one that decides what leaves the warehouse.

The drawing is m², your sale is a board

The customer works the wall out in square metres and you sell boards of 1.20 × 1.80 or 2.40. The sum between the two stays with the salesperson.

How Tablia reads the list

  1. 01

    It separates item from quantity

The list is read line by line, and the number that is a quantity is kept apart from the numbers that are measurements.

  2. 02

It keeps type and thickness attached to the part

The ST, the MR and the 12.5 stay part of the board's name. None of them becomes a quantity, and none is lost along the way.

  3. 03

It infers the unit nobody wrote down

Nobody writes “piece” on a dry-construction list. The unit comes from the item and from the context of the other lines — boards by the piece, compound by the bag, tape by the roll.

  4. 04

    It searches by meaning

“board ST 12.5 1.20x1.80” finds the DRYWALL BOARD ST 12.5MM 1.20X1.80 in your catalogue. Alternative names for the same product are searched too.

  5. 05

It flags what it could not find

Rock wool your store does not carry goes to the salesperson with the customer's original wording, instead of vanishing from the list.

The list can arrive as

PDFJPGPNGXLSXXLSDOCXCSVtexthandwritten

Handwriting is the only one that does not go in — returning a wrong thickness that looks right is worse than refusing the file.

Your catalogue works as it is

What you upload

The stock file your store already uses, in CSV, XLS or XLSX. Tablia recognises the code, description and price columns with the help of artificial intelligence, and you check the mapping before it takes effect. A manufacturer name in the middle of the description and an abbreviated type do not block the search.

What it does with what it could not find

The item appears to the salesperson with the customer's original wording, flagged as not found. It does not pick a similar thickness in its place and does not delete the line. The decision is your team's: add the item, offer an equivalent, adjust the quantity or say the store does not carry it.

The quote only goes out after the salesperson checks it

Nothing is sent to the customer automatically. The salesperson reviews item by item, adjusts quantities, swaps products, sets the price and decides when to send.

Tablia is a copilot: it takes on the typing and the searching, and hands the decision back to whoever knows the customer and the job.

Tablia takes on

  • Reading the list, in whatever format it arrives
  • Inferring the unit nobody wrote down
  • Looking up each item in your catalogue
  • Flagging what it could not find

You decide

  • The quantity of each item
  • Swapping the product
  • The price
  • When to send

Questions from people who sell dry construction

Does Tablia know the difference between ST, MR and FR board?

The type goes into the item's specification, alongside the thickness and the format. A request for MR is not met by an ST in your catalogue: a diverging specification discards the candidate. What it does not do is decide for you — a board with no exact match reaches the salesperson flagged, with the customer's original wording beside it.

And when the customer writes just “profile 70”?

It searches by meaning and brings the candidates that make sense for that line, but it does not invent the missing word. A 70 mm track and a 70 mm stud remain two different parts, and the choice between them reaches the salesperson along with what the customer wrote. Whoever knows the job decides in two seconds; Tablia simply does not decide alone.

Does Tablia convert square metres of wall into a number of boards?

There is no conversion rule inside it, and it is better to say so now. The square metres the customer wrote reach the salesperson as the customer wrote them. How many boards cover that area depends on the format, the ceiling height and the cutting waste — that sum stays with whoever sells.

Does it read the accessories list together with the boards?

Yes, and that is the normal case. Compound, tape, corner bead, screws and acoustic strip come on the same sheet as the board and the profile, each with its own unit — bag, roll, piece, hundred. Each item is extracted with its quantity, and the unit that was not written is inferred from the item and from the context of the other lines.

Do I have to tidy up my catalogue before starting?

No. You upload the stock file the store already uses, in CSV, XLS or XLSX, and Tablia recognises the code, description and price columns with the help of artificial intelligence — you check the mapping before it takes effect. Abbreviated descriptions and a manufacturer name in the middle of the text do not block the search.

What happens to an item my store does not carry?

It appears to the salesperson flagged as not found, with the customer's original wording beside it. Tablia does not pick a similar thickness in its place and does not delete the line. The decision is yours: add the item, offer an equivalent, or say the store does not carry it.

In what format can the customer send the list?

PDF, a photo in JPG or PNG, a spreadsheet in XLSX or XLS, a document in DOCX, CSV or typed text. The only one that does not go in is a handwritten list: Tablia does not accept handwriting, so it never returns a wrong thickness that looks right.

Does the quote go to the customer on its own?

Never. Nothing is sent without the salesperson. They review item by item, adjust quantities, swap products, set the price and decide when to send. Tablia takes on the typing and the searching; the decision stays with whoever knows the customer and the job.
